Letter of the Day: Wilderness living

Wilderness living

EDITOR: There has been on ongoing debate recently regarding the possibility of expanding tourism in our small community of Occidental. Most landowners want to preserve our pristine wilderness. However, the recent visit by a California black bear has folks up in arms.

People need to make up their minds. Wilderness means we live among bears, coyotes, foxes, skunks, racoons and mountain lions.

Shouldn't we be asking ourselves why this bear has had to leave its habitat to come all the way from Mendocino County to scavenge for food?

Something is out of balance.
