Value of choice

EDITOR: Jack Atkin wrote that there is no value to changing from PG&E to Sonoma Clean Power ("No added value," Letters, Thursday). I voted for that option a couple of years ago, as did thousands of others, beating PG&E at the polls after it spent $44 million trying to defeat Proposition 16.

The value to me is that I am sick of fat cat companies whose CEOs make millions of dollars annually and can't seem to find the kill switch to put out a fire that killed eight people in San Bruno. PG&E spent years trying to find maps of all its gas lines and was fined millions when they couldn't be found. Then it wanted the ratepayers, not shareholders, to pick up the tab. I would love to put them out of business. I do not trust them, nor do I trust the Public Utilities Commission, the board that oversees power suppliers in California. Have we all forgotten already?

Unfortunately, I live in Rohnert Park, and the City Council just opted out of Sonoma Clean Power. I hope that will not be the last say on my power in the future.
