Ukiah City Councilwoman Mari Rodin has resigned, effective Aug. 16, to take a government job in Monterey County.
"It's a great professional opportunity," she said Friday.
She will be working for Monterey County's Local Agency Formation Commission, which is charged with overseeing land use-related issues.
Rodin said she did not want to leave Ukiah after 22 years but had been unsuccessful in seeking engaging, full-time work in Mendocino County. In addition to 11 years on the City Council, Rodin has been self employed as a grant writer.
She currently serves on Mendocino County's Local Agency Formation Commission.
The Council has yet to decide whether to appoint a replacement or wait for an election, said Councilman Benj Thomas.
Rodin's term does not expire until 2016.
