Middletown women suffer major injuries after being struck by car

Two women were struck by a car and sustained major injuries in the Clearlake area late Tuesday night, the CHP reported.

The women, Misty Myers, 30, of Middletown and Elicia Mendoza, 36, of Middletown were walking in a crosswalk on Highway 29 near its intersection with Armstrong Street.

Gerardo Garcesbarahona, 22 of San Mateo, was driving south on Highway 29 in his 2010 Chrysler Sebring and appears to have struck the women just before midnight, the CHP said.

Both women were transported by REACH helicopter to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. They remained in the hospital Saturday and were listed in good condition, hospital spokeswoman Katy Hillenmeyer said.

The driver was not arrested. The collision is under investigation and alcohol may have played a factor, the CHP said.
