Press Democrat honored for coverage of SSU loans

The Society of American Business Editors and Writers honored The Press Democrat on Wednesday for its coverage of the Sonoma State University Academic Foundation's lending practices.

A package of stories by Staff Writer Nathan Halverson received the group's Best in Business award for enterprise reporting by newspapers up to 125,000 circulation.

Two other newspapers were also honored in the same category: The Sarasota (Fla.) Herald-Tribune and The State in Columbia, S.C.

SABEW is the nation's largest group of business journalists. It honored business coverage by two other Northern California newspapers: The San Jose Mercury News, which received three awards, including a Best in Business for overall excellence among mid-sized newspapers, and the Sacramento Bee, which received a single award for enterprise reporting among large publications.
