A woman driving out of a Farmers Lane business parking lot Monday struck a man in a wheelchair, leaving both parties shaken but unharmed by the low-speed collision, police and witnesses said.
The accident was an eerie reminder for the blind and disabled man.
Ken Rossi, 45, sustained major injuries when he was struck four-and-a-half years ago in a crosswalk on Montgomery Drive. He still suffers from chronic pain from the injuries, he said.
"I seem to be cursed with cars," Rossi said. "People need to start paying attention when they're driving."
Monday, the driver struck Rossi at a speed estimated at about .5 mile per hour, said Santa Rosa Police Sgt. Rich Celli.
No incident report was taken, and fire crews on the scene helped re-set Rossi's bent wheel so he could get home. Late Monday he was calling repair shops in search of a temporary wheelchair he can use while his is fixed.
"I don't live a dull life," Rossi said. "I try to make the best of each day. I want to do as much living as I can without getting run over."
