KENTFIELD - A Marin County high school student who was left clinging to life when he was struck in the head with a line drive while pitching is back on the baseball field.
Gunnar Sandberg attended the first practice of the season on Monday for the Marin Catholic High School's baseball team.
Sandberg was hit by a ball that came off a metal bat during a practice game last March. He suffered a fractured skull, and was placed in a medically induced coma because of brain swelling.
But the 17-year-old tells the Marin Independent Journal that his goal was always to return to playing baseball.
The Marin County Athletic League now only allows players to use wooden bats - a change that was approved after Sandberg's injury.
