Charles Schulz portrait going into Smithsonian

Going to D.C. this week, or soon?

If so, you might include in your plans a trip to the splendid, old Patent Office to see the photograph of Charles Schulz that's about to go up in the building's Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery.

Several of the late "Peanuts" cartoonist's family and friends will be there Friday for the installation of a 1986 photograph of him by the late Yousuf Karsh, one of the finest portrait photographers ever.

The photo of Schulz shows him at his drawing board in Santa Rosa and working on a Sunday strip, the original of which will be displayed alongside the portrait.

The presentation will honor both Schulz and Karsh. It coincides with the 60th birthday of the comics strip that made Snoopy and a shy doodler famous all around the world.
