The city councils of Santa Rosa and Sebastopol have endorsed a proposal to put a $10 increase in the vehicle registration fee on the November ballot in Sonoma County.
An increase could raise $105 million over 20 years for the Sonoma County, Santa Rosa, Petaluma and Healdsburg transit systems, the Safe Routes to Schools program and bicycle and pedestrian paths.
The two councils, which discussed the fee increase Tuesday night, join Petaluma, Healdsburg, Cotati, Rohnert Park, Cloverdale and Windsor in supporting the proposal, which would need a simple majority to pass.
The Sonoma County Transportation Agency will discuss the proposal at its meeting at 2:30 p.m. Monday.
The ballot measure had been considered for the June election, but didn't receive enough support from the city and county representatives over concerns it was being rushed and it was not clear how the money would be spent.
In voting unanimously to support the proposal, the Sebastopol council recommended that the 5 percent proposed to be spent on administration be decreased and spent on transit and bike paths instead.
The Santa Rosa City Council vote was also unanimous.
