The final tally is in and a proposed Sonoma County wine label law enjoys the unanimous support of the region's nine wine and grape trade groups.
The Russian River Valley Winegrowers on Wednesday became the final group to throw its support behind the effort, which seeks to bolster Sonoma's brand and boost sales by requiring wines made from Sonoma County grapes to carry Sonoma County on the label.
Similar so-called "conjunctive labeling" laws exist for Napa, Paso Robles and Lodi. Napa's law, passed in 1989, has been credited with helping the valley become the most recognized wine region in the nation.
The Sonoma County Vintners will now move forward with drafting a bill and getting it introduced into the Legislature, said executive director Honore Comfort.
"Our plan is to follow in the footsteps of the other California wine regions that have been successful with this kind of legislation," she said. Comfort said she hopes a bill can be introduced within a month and the law could be passed by fall.
