Sunday service set for Rohnert Park girl, 2, killed in crosswalk

The Rohnert Park community will have a chance to mourn the brief life of 2-year-old Calli Murray, who was hit and killed in a crosswalk, at public memorial service on Sunday.

The service will be at 2 p.m. at Parent-Sorensen Mortuary, 850 Keokuk St., in Petaluma.

The little girl was walking hand-in-hand with her mother, Ling Murray, across Snyder Lane during busy commute traffic shortly after dark on Dec. 1.

Murray continues her recovery as she and husband Jeff prepare for the service.

Ling Murray will not be able to leave the hospital to attend the memorial service. But the family plans to broadcast it online so she may take part from her hospital bed, said her step-father-in-law, Al Andres.

Kaitlyn Dunaway, an 18-year-old Sonoma State University freshman, told an investigating officer she was on her cellphone when she struck the Murrays.

Police were still trying to determine if she was texting, or answering a phone call, at the time of the crash.

Prosecutors have yet to decide what, if any, criminal charges to file against Dunaway.

A fund to help the Murrays with medical expenses was established at Redwood Credit Union, 250 Rohnert Park Expressway, Rohnert Park, 94928. The Murrays have also opened the Calli Ann Memorial Fund, or CAMF, at Wells Fargo Bank in Rohnert Park.
