Police interview mom run down in Rohnert Park street

Rohnert Park Police said Friday they have interviewed the woman who was severely injured and her 2-year-old daughter killed when they were struck by a car while crossing the street.

Investigators spoke with Ling Murray, 40, in the hospital on Thursday. She had been in a medically-induced coma for almost a week after the Dec. 1 accident in which she and her daughter, Calli, were struck in the Snyder Lane crosswalk .

The driver, Kaitlyn Dunaway, an 18-year-old Sonoma State University freshman, told one officer she was text messaging at the time. She told another officer that she had just received a phone call, according to a court affidavit.

No citations were issued.

Lt. Jeff Taylor said Friday that he was not certain what the interview with the mother yielded, but he said "we were able to get her statement," with the help of a Mandarin-language translator.

He said police want to be as thorough as possible before wrapping up their investigation and forwarding the results to the Sonoma County District Attorney's office.

He was unable to predict how long that will take.
