River Rock names new CEO

River Rock Casino said Wednesday it has hired Scott Garawitz, the former top executive at Thunder Valley Casino near Sacramento, as its new CEO and general manager.

Garawitz, 51, will earn $300,000 per year.

In February, Thunder Valley placed Garawitz on administrative leave and fired three other executives after financial problems forced the tribal casino to halt a $1 billion expansion.

Garawitz had been CEO and general manager at Thunder Valley since 2002.

At River Rock, he will succeed John Cirrincione, who has been the casino's acting general manager since January.

On Monday, the Alexander Valley casino said it earned $3.1 million on $31.1 million in revenue during the quarter ending June 30.

River Rock is owned by the Dry Creek Pomo tribe.
