SRJC women set state swimming record

The Santa Rosa Junior College women?s 400-yard medley relay team shattered a state record Thursday on the first day of the three-day California Community Swimming and Diving Championships in Long Beach.

The foursome of Allie Stuhr, Kate Mounday, Heather Cramer and Allie King won in a time of 3:52.76 to break the six-year-old record of 3:56.88. Orange Coast College finished second in 3:57.09.

The SRJC women?s team, the defending state champions, is in third place with 136 points. Sierra College (167) is in first place and Orange Coast College (143) is in second.

Bear Cubs coach Jill McCormick was optmistic on Thursday night, however. Nine of SRJC?s 17 swimmers have yet to compete in an individual event, including Stuhr and Mounday, who are both seeded among the top five in three events.

Led by Tyler Hannis? fourth-place finish in the 500 freestyle in a personal-best time of 4:38.78, the SRJC men?s team is in second place with 115 points, 77 behind Orange Coast College.
