Man accused of attempted rape in Sebastopol makes court appearance

A 27-year-old man suspected of trying to rape a pregnant woman in southern Sebastopol made his first court appearance Friday.

Odalis Solano Rosario faces charges of attempted rape, penetration with a foreign object and kidnapping.

Sonoma County Court Judge Elliot Lee Daum ordered Rosario's case moved from the early case resolution court and scheduled a hearing next week when Rosario is likely to enter a plea. Rosario is not eligible for early case resolution because he could face a life sentence if convicted of the charges, according to Joan Risse, chief deputy district attorney.

Rosario was arrested by sheriff's deputies Tuesday after a neighbor said he was her attacker.

Rosario is also a suspect in the Nov. 10 sexual assault of a SRJC employee. No charges have been filed in connection with that case. Santa Rosa Police detectives have submitted clothing to a forensic science lab to see if there is any link to the Sebastopol case.

Meanwhile police continue to investigate that case.

"We're following up on some tips they received overnight and tracking down people named as similarly described people by members of the public," Sgt. Lisa Banayat said Friday.

Police are also reviewing surveillance tape of businesses near the junior college, Banayat said. Detectives are trying to determine if anyone matching the suspect's description was caught on tape that day.

Nov. 10 a short, stocky Latino man with spiky hair and aged 25 to 30 years old attacked a college employee in the Burbank Auditorium.

"Once police finish their report, we'll file anything additional with the court," Risse said.

Rosario's next court appearance is Wednesday.
