Santa Rosa man pleads not guilty in stabbing of wife's classmate

A Santa Rosa man pleaded not guilty Wednesday to a charge of attempted murder in the stabbing of his wife's male classmate.

Miguel Ascencio, 35, is suspected of stabbing Oswaldo Fajardo, 39, on Oct. 16 outside the Santa Rosa Junior College satellite campus on South Wright Road.

Police said Fajardo had stopped to talk to Ascencio's wife in the parking lot after their English class let out. Ascencio emerged and stabbed Fajardo in the stomach, police said.

The tires on Fajardo's BMW were found to be slashed.

Ascensio fled but was arrested at his Coffey Lane home. Police said he and his wife had relationship problems.

A preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 4.
