Petaluma Health Center celebrates new headquarters Friday

Petaluma Health Center will host a public celebration 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday to mark the opening of its new health care facility at 1179 N. McDowell Blvd. in Petaluma.

The 53,000-square-foot expansion increases the center's primary care, mental health and dental care services. The facility also includes a "Center for Healthy Living," focused on preventing and treating chronic disease through lifestyle changes and featuring a demonstration kitchen for kids and adults.

Funding for the center included $8.9 million in federal stimulus monies. The center also received support from UnitedHealthcare, which invested $5.87 million through its California Health Care Investment Program.

Scheduled events include a performance by children enrolled in the center's "PLAY" program, dancing to "Move Your Body" by Beyonce. Other activities will include relay races and hula-hoops. There will also be free blood pressure and glucose testing as well as food. About a dozen local and state politicians are expected to attend.
