Crosswalk hit-and-run victim still not named

Santa Rosa police on Saturday continued to withhold the name of the 4-year-old boy who died after he was hit by a car in a West Ninth Street crosswalk.

The boy died of his injuries Friday at an Oakland hospital and a 22-year-old driver, Marcos Lopez Garcia, is being held in the crash.

Sgt. Eric Goldschlag said he was not authorized to release the identity of the victim. He referred questions to investigators who were not on duty or were unavailable.

The boy was hit Thursday as he crossed the street near Rockwell Place with his mother and two sisters at about 6 p.m.

Witnesses told police one car stopped for the family but another continued, hitting the boy at full speed.

Garcia, an unlicensed driver, was arrested on suspicion of felony hit and run later that night after police tracked him to his home using witness information.

Garcia is expected to appear in court Monday afternoon.
