North Coast legislators help fill the bill hopper

California lawmakers introduced more than 2,300 bills this legislative session. Here is a sampling of those submitted by North Coast legislators:

-- Senate Bill 129, by Sen. Mark Leno, D-San Francisco would make it unlawful to discriminate in hiring or firing against those who use medical marijuana with a doctor's recommendation. Employers could still fire medical marijuana smokers, though, if they are impaired during work hours.

-- Assemby Bill 37, by Assemblyman Jared Huffman, D-San Rafael, would require utility companies to disclose health information and require alternatives to smart meters to concerned customers.

-- SB 299, by Sen. Noreen Evans, D-Santa Rosa, would amend insurance law to ensure that working women on pregnancy leave don't lose their health insurance coverage.

-- AB 1162, by Assemblyman Wesley Chesbro, D-Arcata, would increase penalties

for poaching fish and wildlife from $10,000 to $40,000.

-- AB 88, by Huffman, would require that genetically engineered salmon be labeled as such.

-- AB 968, by Chesbro, would establish the position of Native American Advisor on Tribal Issues in the governor's office.

-- AB 366, by Assemblyman Michael Allen, D-Santa Rosa, would require state mental health hospitals to create, implement, review and update measures to ensure the health and safety of patients and staff.

-- SB 907, by Evans, would create a commission to develop a long-term plan to address the state's transportation and infrastructure needs.
