Helicopter rescues man who fell from Sonoma Coast cliff

Firefighters and two helicopter crews rescued a man who fell from a cliff Monday afternoon on the Sonoma Coast between Shell Beach and Goat Rock.

Firefighters came to the man's aid at the bottom of the cliff and helped load him into a rescue litter that was then hoisted away by a California Highway Patrol helicopter, said Bodega Bay Fire Captain Justin Fox.

The chopper took the unidentified man and placed him safely on top of the bluff. From there he was loaded onto a REACH medical helicopter and flown to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.

The man had suffered a lower-leg injury, Fox said.

Firefighters from Monte Rio Fire, CalFire and Bodega Bay responded to the rescue scene, as did state parks rangers.
