Free CPR instruction will be offered at Lincoln Elementary School in west Santa Rosa on Sunday in an effort to spread life-savings skills and remember a 4-year-old boy who struck by a car and killed nearby.
The event runs 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday and has about 40 available student slots, said organizer Judy Holmes, a physicians assistant.
Holmes is asking that participants donate any funds they can spare to the Christopher Rowe Memorial Fund.
Rowe, his mother, Michelle, his twin sister, Julia, and older sister, Mimi, 6, were crossing West Ninth Street on Aug. 18 en route to soccer practice when he was struck in the crosswalk and seriously injured, police said. He died the next morning.
Holmes' daughter is on the same soccer team as Mimi Rowe, and Holmes rushed to help when the boy was hit.
Though it wouldn't have helped in Christopher's situation, Holmes said she organized the CPR instruction because she believes so strongly that eveyone should be trained.
The Health Source is providing bilingual, certified CPR instructors for the event.
It is not intended for those who require CPR certification for their employment, Holmes said.
