Postponement in Alexander Valley homicide case

A 29-year-old man accused of slaying his sister's boyfriend asked a judge on Thursday to postpone a hearing in which he would enter a plea to the first-degree murder charge until Friday.

Jarrod Miller, with close-cropped dark hair and stubble beard, nodded as Judge Kenneth Gnoss warned him that postponing a plea would shorten the days his attorneys would have to prepare for a preliminary hearing and asked if he was sure.

"Yes," said Miller, who was represented at Thursday's hearing by Public Defender Joe Bisbiglia.

Miller is accused of shooting his sister's boyfriend, Timothy Neuer, 29, at close range on March 8 at the Alexander Valley home the couple shared.

District Attorney Jill Ravitch, who has indicated she would prosecute the case if it goes to trial, said Thursday it was still too early to comment on the case.

"I don't expect this to have a quick resolution," Ravitch said.
