Man shot to death outside Santa Rosa butcher shop identified

]Little information was disclosed Friday about the shooting death of a Santa Rosa man outside a rural Todd Road meat shop, even as the investigation passed the 24-hour mark.

The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office identified the victim Friday as Jos?Manuel De Jes?s, 33.

Detective Sgt. Carlos Basurto said an autopsy showed De Jes?s suffered a single gunshot wound to the head.

But there was no obvious dispute that might explain his death and no suspects had been detained, authorities said.

Basurto said he did not have "any idea yet" if the slaying might be gang-related.

De Jes?s was shot and killed about 2:15 p.m. Thursday in the parking lot of the Carnicer? Contreras, a Latino meat shop near Walker Avenue and Llano Road surrounded by open fields and small farms south of the Santa Rosa city limits.

Basurto said it did not appear De Jes?s had patronized the butcher shop. It was not clear how he ended up there or what might be behind his death, Basurto said.

Sonoma County court files showed no evidence that De Jes?s has a criminal past or history of gang violence.

Authorities said witnesses saw a black sedan similar in appearance to a 2005 Cadillac Catera or a 2000 Chrysler 300 in the parking lot with three Latino men inside around the time of the shooting.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call sheriff's Detective Brandon Cutting at 565-2185.
