Santa Rosa man throws hot dog at Tiger Woods

Witnesses told deputies that it appeared the hot dog flew up into the air and not toward Woods, Cardoza said.

"I was focusing on my putt when he started yelling," said Woods, who didn't seem bothered by it all. "Next thing I know, he laid on the ground, and looked like he wanted to be arrested because he ... put his hands behind his back and turned his head."

Deputies removed the man from the green and interviewed him nearby, Cardoza said. The man told deputies the hot dog flew out of his hand, Cardoza said.

"He said he had a drink earlier in the day, but the deputies couldn't smell alcohol on his breath," Cardoza said. "He was totally coherent, cooperative."

He declined to say why he approached Woods.

"Who knows why he did it, he didn't explain to us," Cardoza said.

The man was arrested for disturbing the peace, given a citation to appear before a judge and escorted off the property, Cardoza said.

Cardoza said the Santa Clara sheriff's department policy doesn't allow him to release the names of people not booked into jail.

The incident only briefly stopped play.

Wood's finished 10 shots behind the winner - Bryce Molder - in a tie for 30th in his first tournament in seven weeks.
