A fire early Monday morning consumed most of a home on River Rd. in Forestville.

Fire damages Forestville house

A two-story home housing what appeared to be an indoor marijuana operation partially burned early Monday in Forestville, reported fire officials.

The residence was in the 9000 block of River Road. Calls reporting the fire came in to dispatchers just before 3 a.m.

The first arriving firefighters found flames coming through the second-floor roof as well as in the first floor. Forestville Chief Dan Northern said that while the house suffered significant damage, including losing about 30 percent of the second floor, it appeared to be salvageable.

No one was home at the time of the fire and no owner or resident appeared during the effort. Fire officials early Monday were determining the owners' identity.

The smell of marijuana hung around the fire scene Monday morning.

No marijuana plants were found in the home, but firefighters working inside found what appeared to be growing equipment, Northern said.

That area of the home didn't burn, indicating the fire started elsewhere.

Fire officials Monday morning were starting their investigation of the cause.

The majority of firefighters left the scene at about 4:30 a.m. while one truck crew remained behind to make sure no further fire flared.

No one was injured from the fire.

Forestville firefighters received help from Graton, Russian River, Cal Fire and Rincon Valley agencies.
