Fall festival

EDITOR: Saturday was my first time attending the annual fall festival at Tolay Regional Park southeast of Petaluma, and I was amazed. It was more fun than my favorite music festival, more kicks than an old-fashioned carnival.

I drilled a hole using a Native American string drill, made a cornhusk doll, met a (caged) tarantula, strung a water-cycle bracelet, petted cute chicks and learned to identify California snakes. If I had more time, I would have dipped a candle, gone on a hay ride and picked a pumpkin. All for the $4 entrance fee. What a deal.

Thanks, park staff and volunteers, for demonstrating the joys of simple rural activities. They are abundant.

For a good time, go to the Tolay fall festival. It will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m today through Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, it's open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
