A sold-out crowd of 250 turned out Sunday night for the Sonoma County Museum's spring gala at Santa Rosa's Vintners Inn.

The event's title, "Museum on the Move," was a nod to several ambitious projects that are currently under way.

By late spring, the museum plans to open a $200,000 outdoor sculpture garden on Seventh Street, next to its present home in the former post office building.

And planning continues for the Sonoma County Museum's new contemporary art exhibit space, expected to open next year on the ground floor of the former AT&T building downtown.

Ultimately, the Sonoma County Museum plans to devote its current site at 425 Seventh St. entirely to history exhibits.

Sunday's party featured local premium wines, gourmet food and a speech by Lial Jones, executive director of the Crocker Art Museum, about the importance of museums to the community.
