Man hit by city bus in Santa Rosa

A man was seriously injured Thursday after he was hit by a Santa Rosa city bus near the Montgomery Village shopping center.

The man suffered significant trauma from the crash, including open fractures to an arm and a leg, Santa Rosa fire officials said.

Santa Rosa police officers were still investigating how the crash occurred.

Paramedics and police were dispatched just before 5:40 p.m. to Sonoma Avenue between Farmers Lane and Hahman Drive.

It wasn't clear exactly where the point of impact occurred, however some evidence of the crash remained at a northern curb of Sonoma Avenue close to Hahman Drive as police began investigating the incident.

An empty city bus sat in a westbound lane.

Police officials said they were in the process of interviewing the bus driver to determine how the crash happened.

The man didn't appear to have been in a crosswalk, according to preliminary reports.

An ambulance transported the man with lights and sirens to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, dispatchers said.
