Surveillance videos released in Rohnert Park homicide

Detectives have released closed-circuit videos of two "people of interest" in Friday's fatal shooting of a 20-year-old Rohnert Park man.

The videos time stamp begins at 6:21 a.m. and show an unknown man and a Sacramento-area woman buying Newport cigarettes at a local convenience store, approximately 90 minutes before Kevin "Ziggy" Craft's body was found behind the Best Western Inn on Redwood Drive.

Investigators suspect the video was taken before the shooting. They declined to call the pair suspects or say why they are interested in them. But they are intent on finding them and are publicizing the videos to enlist the public in their effort.

"We hope there is someone out there in the Northern California area that recognizes either or both of the subjects," Rohnert Park Public Safety Sgt. Jeff Nicks said Tuesday.

Nicks identified the woman in the video as Kimberly Monet Christian, 19, of Citrus Heights, near Sacramento. The man's identity is not known.

Last Friday, 40 Citrus Heights officers helped four Rohnert Park detectives execute a search warrant in the city. Nicks declined to comment if the searched apartment was connected to Christian.

Craft, who attended Rancho Cotate and El Camino high schools, would have turned 21 this Sunday, adding to his family's grief.

"Kevin was a good kid," his father Curtis said in a brief interview Tuesday. "He was loved by the community."

His son's friends are organizing a fund-raiser for the family on May 9 at Escape paintball in Rohnert Park. Tickets are $25.

One of the organizers, a 17-year-old girl who declined to give her name, said that Craft had a close-knit group of friends that he almost always hung out with. None of those friends recognized the faces in the video, she said.

"This just doesn't make sense to us," she said. "Something like that should never have happened to him, ever."
