United Way of Wine Country finds new CEO

A veteran United Way fund-raiser has been named president and chief executive officer of United Way of the Wine Country.

Michael Kallhoff, 37, previously served as vice president of resource development for United Way of Northeastern Nevada in Las Vegas for the past two years and had a similar position for seven years at Valley of the Sun United Way in Phoenix, Ariz.

He replaces Bill Nordskog, interim president and CEO, who stepped in to lead the organization after Walter Collins resigned as United Way's top local executive last August.

It has been a challenging time for United Way. The weak economy, Sonoma County layoffs and plans by longtime supporter State Farm Insurance to leave its Rohnert Park office this summer has made fund-raising difficult, said spokeswoman Stacy Ruppert.

United Way is expected to end its year June 30 with $3 million in fund-raising, about the same as last year but less than the $4 million of two years ago.

Kallhoff will be paid $110,000 annually, a reduction from the $133,000 annual salary that Collins was paid.

United Way of the Wine Country represents Sonoma, Mendocino, Lake, Del Norte and Humboldt Counties.
