Police warn on counterfeit money circulating in Lake County

Lakeport police are putting business owners on alert because of counterfeit $100 bills that have begun circulating in the Lake County communities of Lakeport and Kelseyville over recent days.

Two businesses from Lakeport's South Main Street reported receiving fake currency this week, Lakeport Police said.

Four fake hundreds also came in to Umpqua Bank branches in Lakeport and Kelseyville, they said.

Police advise anyone who handles large bills to consult tips for detecting counterfeit currency on the U.S. Secret Service website, http://www.secretservice.gov/money_detect.shtml.
