Mountain lion spotted across from Rincon Valley Middle School

Administrators at Santa Rosa's Rincon Valley Middle School have alerted parents to a mountain lion sighted Thursday afternoon at the Oak Park Swim Club across Badger Road from the seventh- and eighth-grade campus.

The animal was seen around 3:30 p.m Thursday in an area where deer are common, the school's assistant principal, Amy Sather, said in her notice.

The owner of the tennis and swim club informed school officials Friday morning, though the lion likely had moved on already.

Sather recommended that students stay in groups when they're walking in the neighborhood and suggested joggers take precautions.
