Free child safety seat inspections Thursday in Petaluma

The CHP is hosting a free child safety seat inspection day Thursday in Petaluma to ensure that local children are properly protected when they're on the road.

Authorities said about 75 percent of infant and child safety seats are installed or used improperly.

On Thursday, trained technicians will help parents and guardians with proper installation, as well as check for recalls and defects, and provide information.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday in front of Kmart in The Plaza North shopping center, 261 North McDowell Blvd.

CHP officers on hand also will be accepting donations of new, unwrapped toys for the Chips For Kids holiday drive, serving Sonoma County children.
