Beach slaying leads to 18-year prison term

A 29-year-old Suisun man was sentenced Friday to the maximum sentence of 18 years in state prison for his role in the 2008 kidnapping and slaying of a trial witness near Jenner.

Tyrone Tay had previously pleaded guilty to a single count of kidnapping in association with the Asian Boyz street gang in the killing of Vutha Au, 24.

Au was shot nine times in the Blind Beach parking lot to prevent his testimony in another kidnapping case.

His sentencing was the second in the case this week. On Tuesday, one of his codefendants, Boonlak Chanpeng, also 29, was sentenced to 15 years in prison as part of a plea bargain to similar charges.

Four remaining defendants have been charged with murder and face trial in October.

They are suspected shooter Quentin Russell, 27; Preston Khaoone, 25; and brothers David, 22, and Sarith Prak, 24; all of Santa Rosa.
