Plea postponed in Rohnert Park crosswalk death

A plea hearing was delayed Thursday for a Rohnert Park woman accused of misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter in the pedestrian crosswalk death of 2-year-old Calli Murray in December.

An attorney for driver Kaitlyn Dunaway, 18, asked for the postponement because they were "still gathering and reviewing evidence," said Jane Gaskell, who appeared on behalf of private defense attorney Chris Andrian.

Judge Dana Beernick Simonds agreed to reschedule an entry-of-plea hearing for June 23.

The delay disappointed the toddler's grandmother, Kay Carrera, who flew in from Hartley, Del. to attend the hearing on behalf of her son and daughter-in-law.

"I'm here to show moral support; he's having a hard time with it," said Carrera, 68, of her son and Calli's father, Jeff Murray of Rohnert park.
