Police hunt down DUI offenders before Fourth of Julyweekend

Petaluma police arrested nine Sonoma County residents wanted on outstanding DUI warrants during a two-day pre-July Fourth sweep designed to keep repeat drunken drivers off the road over the holiday.

On June 17 and again on June 24, police attempted to locate nearly six dozen drivers who had drunken driving charges pending against them in Sonoma County court.

Arrested were: Andrew Leanord, 44, and Rogelio Barreto-Guitierrez, 33, of Petaluma; Evelina Taylor, 30, Brandon Millitello, 26, Theros Fountaine, 40, and Scott Gilhooley, 38, of Rohnert Park; Todd Baldwin, 42, of Cotati; Nikita Thomsen, 22, of Napa; and Cindy Bickle, 53, of Novato.

Petaluma is the lead agency for the "Avoid the 13" Sonoma County DUI Task Force, which will be searching for people with DUI warrants over the holiday weekend.

Sgt. Ken Savano said offenders may want to clear their warrant today, or risk arrest and jail time during the long weekend. The DUI Task Force has officers assigned full-time through grant funds to finding DUI warrant suspects.

In Sonoma County, there are nearly 4,000 residents with outstanding DUI warrants, 111 of whom are wanted on felony charges.
