Pro baseball game canceled in Healdsburg

The Sonoma County Grapes has postponed the second of two exhibition games that was to be played at Recreation Park in Healdsburg on Thursday.

Their opponent tonight was be the San Rafael Pacifics. The game will be played instead on Aug. 10 in San Rafael.

The Grapes hope to find a permanent home in Sonoma County next season.

The team aims to become the first professional club based in Sonoma County since Rohnert Park's Sonoma County Crushers of the independent Western Baseball League disbanded a decade ago.

Both teams are owned by San Rafael-based Centerfield Partners and play in the independent North American League.

Headed into Wednesday night's late game in San Rafael, the Grapes were 16-28 on the year and entrenched at the bottom of their four-team division. San Rafael, 30-20, is in first place.

Last week, the Grapes beat the East Bay Lumberjacks 8-2 in the first exhibition in Healdsburg.
