Revenue dips at Santa Rosa JDSU unit

JDSU's Santa Rosa-based optical division saw revenues dip 1 percent to $58.1 million in the fourth quarter, the company reported Tuesday.

The Advanced Optical Technologies division, which has about 500 workers in Santa Rosa, rang up $225.7 million in sales for the fiscal year ending June 30, down 2 percent from the previous year.

Overall, JDSU reported a loss of $24.3 million, or 10 cents a share, on $439.3 million in revenue during the quarter. A year earlier, it posted a profit of $9.3 million, or 4 cents a share, on revenue of $471.8 million in the same period.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. JDSU stock, which closed at $10.68 a share Tuesday, rose 4 percent in after-hours trading.

"JDSU's execution on its strategic priorities is leading to market share gains and financial leverage despite challenging economic conditions," JDSU president and CEO Tom Waechter said in a statement.
