Five victims so far in Sonoma Valley groping case

A man accused of groping a woman outside a Sonoma grocery store is now suspected of assaulting four other victims in the Sonoma Valley, including two young teens, investigators said.

Sonoma County sheriff's detectives believe there could be additional victims and have released a sketch of the suspect.

The suspect, Samuel Johnson Lyons, 36, of Sonoma, is scheduled to return to court this morning for a hearing on his request to lower his $200,000 bail.

Lyons is facing two felony charges of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 and four misdemeanor charges of sexual battery.

He was arrested early last week after a woman identified him as the man who groped her from behind as she was getting into her car.

Sonoma County sheriff's detectives since have connected him to four other cases, Lt. Dennis O'Leary said. The cases go back several months and occurred in public places in the Sonoma Valley, he said.

The victims said the man ran up from behind, grabbed their breasts or buttocks and dashed away, according to reports.

O'Leary asked anyone with information to contact detectives at 565-2185.
