Penngrove couple faces prison time in child-abuse case

A Penngrove couple pleaded no contest Thursday to felony child abuse of their then 2-month-old child, who was discovered earlier this year with multiple broken bones throughout her body.

Jesus Colula, 26, and Lyndsay Colula, 21, each face up to 12 years in prison at their Sept. 27 sentencing. The father is also expected to be deported.

They were arrested June 6 after bringing the child into a local clinic for a well-baby checkup. The injuries -- including a broken limb, fractures and bruises -- were determined to have occurred up to a month earlier.

Until then, the parents had not brought the baby in for treatment, prosecutors said.

Authorities have declined to say how they believe the injuries occurred.

Jesus Colula's lawyer, Rebecca Linkous, said Thursday they were not intentionally inflicted.

She said the Colulas have surrendered their parental rights.
