Service set for Kelseyville soldier killed in helicopter crash

A public military service will be held Saturday for Richard Essex of Kelseyville, who was killed when the Black Hawk helicopter he was in crashed in Afghanistan.

Essex, 23, was an Army gunner scheduled to return home in November from his second tour. He was one of seven U.S. soldiers killed in the Aug. 16 crash, which also took the lives of three Afghan soldiers and an interpreter.

The service is at 11 a.m. at Kelseyville High School.
