Petaluma City Councilman Gabe Kearney, who is the council's liaison to the city's planning commission, was perplexed when another commissioner objected to Kearney's use of his iPad to read a large environmental document during a recent meeting.

Councilman's iPad

EDITOR: In regards to Petaluma Planning Commissioner Dennis Elias' issue with City Councilman Gabe Kearney's use of an iPad to read an official document during a recent Planning Commission meeting ("Pixels vs. paper: Are iPads in public meetings OK?" Sunday), it appears that Elias needs to get over it and join the 21st century.

As Mayor Debora Fudge of Windsor put it, "You need to work together with trust" as professionals. If it were a high school class it would be a different matter. But it was a meeting with professional adults, one of whom was trying to use technology to help save Petaluma some money, something which is in short supply.

To me, it looks like Elias has another agenda fueling his distrust of Kearney.
