Free tickets are available for two of the concerts planned for the whirlwind opening weekend of the Green Music Center.
All tickets to the Sunrise Choral Concert at 7 a.m. Sept. 30 inside the center's Weill Hall are free, but you must have a ticket. (gmc.sonoma.edu or 866-955-6040.)
The concert, titled "Dedicated to You," includes eight original works by Jeff Langley, with text by Amanda McTigue, all written over the course of the 15-year project to build the hall.
The performance, which lasts about 40 minutes, will feature five local choirs and six vocal soloists accompanied by a small chamber orchestra. There will be a reception in the lobby afterward.
Also, the Santa Rosa Symphony is offering free lawn seating outdoors for 2,700 people at the Orchestral Opening concert at 2 p.m. Sept. 30. (546-8742 or santarosasymphony.com)
The performance will bring together Conductor Emeritus Corrick Brown, Conductor Laureate Jeffrey Kahane and current Music Director Bruno Ferrandis to lead works by Beethoven, Ravel and Copland, plus a new work by Petaluma composer Nolan Gasser.
Patrons can bring low chairs or blankets and their own picnics, but no alcohol. Box lunches, wine and beer can be purchased at the concessions.
The outdoor seats do not offer a view of the stage. However, there are large outdoor screens on either side of the hall's back opening and a sound system.
Indoor seating for the concert is sold out, but those who want a closer, live view may still be able to get reserved table seating outdoors for $25 per person.
Parking is free for all four concerts during the opening weekend, Sept. 29 and 30.
