Petaluma police bust five adults in underage alcohol sting

Petaluma police have arrested five adults suspected of selling alcohol or tobacco to teens or buying alcohol for a teen, reported police Monday.

The arrests came during an undercover police operation conducted late last week, with the teens working with police officers, said Lt. Tim Lyons.

The teen decoys went into several businesses to try and buy booze or cigarettes. They also stood outside of local businesses and asked adults to buy them alcohol.

By the end of the night, a Petaluma man and woman were arrested on suspicion they bought alcohol for teens.

Officers also arrested three store clerks.

A clerk at Payless Deli and Market on Petaluma Boulevard North sold alcohol to a teen, and clerks at the Valero gas station on Old Redwood Highway and a Fast&‘N Easy Market on Petaluma Boulevard North sold tobacco to a teen, Lyons reported.

The five adults all were cited to appear in court.

Petaluma police have conducted four such operations so far in 2012.
