Absurd claims

EDITOR: As a young woman, I have been distraught by the debate over contraception that has stormed the national media. However, Robert McCartney's column ("Self-defeating smear against Girl Scouts") illuminated a whole new level of ridiculousness. The fact that some religious conservatives are attacking Girl Scouts about contraception is absurd. Plain and simple.

As a former Girl Scout, I can tell you, just as the official Girl Scout website can tell you, that the goal is to build "courage, confidence and character." I don't see the connection between empowering young girls in a crucial developmental time and abortion and contraception. Or maybe I just missed that meeting?
