$14 million lottery winner from North Coast

A North Coast resident holding a lucky lottery ticket purchased at a Lake County market stepped forward Monday to claim a $14 million SuperLotto Plus jackpot.

The winner, who was not identified by lottery officials, will be introduced today at a news conference at the California Lottery office in Sacramento.

Two winning tickets were sold and will split the $28 million jackpot from Saturday's lottery drawing.

The unidentified North Coast resident bought one of the winning tickets at the Oaks Red & White Store on Highway 20 in the middle of Clearlake Oaks.

The other winner, who had not come forward on Monday, purchased a ticket in Milpitas.

Jodie Nylander, who runs the family-owned store, said she had heard nothing about the winner.

Told that the winner reportedly was a local person, Nylander said, "That's awesome. That's what we were hoping."

The lucky ticket entitles the winner to a prize estimated at $10.3 million in cash. To put the windfall in perspective, Lake County's 28,885 households had a median income of $35,991 last year, according to the Census Bureau's American Community Survey.

That amount is about 60 percent of the $61,020 median household income in Sonoma County.

Lake County government's current general fund budget is $56.6 million, according to the the county's website.

The Red & White Store will receive $70,000 for selling a winning ticket.

Nylander, who has been running the store since February, said she is the fourth generation of her family to operate the store, opened by her great-grandparents in 1933.

At 5,000 square feet, the store is the only grocery store in Clearlake Oaks, a community at the east end of Clear Lake.

The winning numbers in Saturday's drawing were 3, 4, 27, 30, 39 and Mega number 3.

The other winner has 180 days to claim his or her prize.
