Bicyclist suffers major injuries in downtown Santa Rosa collision

A bicyclist was seriously hurt Saturday when struck by a vehicle near the Highway 101 off-ramp at Morgan Street in Santa Rosa, police said.

"It appears to be major injuries, the victim was taken to the hospital," Santa Rosa Police Sgt. Phil Brazis said at the scene.

The victim was male but no additional information was immediately about him, Brazis said.

It is believed that a vehicle exiting Highway 101 on the off-ramp struck the cyclist, who was eastbound on Third Street at the bottom of the off-ramp, he said.

The accident occurred about 2 p.m.

Police closed eastbound Third Street at Morgan Street and traffic was being diverted.

Three bicycles, two down on the pavement and one with a helmet hanging from the handlebars, were left unattended at the southeast corner of the off-ramp.
