A Santa Rosa Junior College student was arrested Monday on suspicion of raping another student in a campus building after hours, Santa Rosa police officials said.
Marco DeAnda-Vargas, 30, was being held on $100,000 bail at the Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of forcible rape, jail officials said.
DeAnda-Vargas and the 23-year-old woman knew each other as classmates, Santa Rosa Police Sgt. John Snetsinger said.
After their Thursday evening class adjourned, they walked together to the Quinn Swim Center and somehow got inside, although the building was apparently closed at the time, Snetsinger said.
At about 9 p.m., their encounter became non-consensual, Snetsinger said. The woman returned home and called SRJC police the next day, he said.
Campus police called the Santa Rosa Police Department at about 8 p.m. Friday, as part of an agreement that city police investigate certain campus crimes.
DeAnda-Vargas was scheduled to be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. today in courtroom 9.
