Donating books

EDITOR: The Free Bookmobile of Sonoma County is also hurt by the loss of books from our community via those deceptively labeled blue collection bins ("Think you gave books to charity?" March 10). Like the Friends of the Library groups, the bookmobile is a local nonprofit that depends on donations of quality books to continue its mission, which is to promote literacy and love of reading by re-circulating material to those who are challenged for access in our county.

Our pledge to our donors is simple: We will utilize as many of your titles as possible, especially the more recent, higher value ones, to stock our shelves so that people of all ages living in low-income and rural areas take great books home, free of charge. Any books our patrons can't use, usually due to age, relevancy or condition, are given to Goodwill.

Please think about the life you'd like your books to have after you're done reading them. If you choose to donate to the Free Bookmobile, you can drop them off at Sonoma Bank in Sebastopol, Paul's Empire Shop in Santa Rosa, the UPS store in Windsor or COTS' Mary Isaak Center in Petaluma.
