Pozzi named interim head of Sonoma County Public Defender's Office

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday appointed Kathleen Pozzi to lead the Public Defender's office.

She takes over on an interim basis for John Abrahams, who is retiring this week after seven years as chief and 21 years with the office.

Pozzi is the first woman to lead the Public Defender's office, which has 47 employees and a $9 million budget.

The pay range for the position is $159,000 to $193,000 annually, plus benefits.

Pozzi, a Sonoma County native, began her career as a law clerk under then-Public Defender Marteen Miller in 1986. She was appointed assistant public defender about four years ago.

The board is expected to fill the Public Defender position on a permanent basis by the end of the year.
